1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge is a Library program that encourages all families and caregivers to read at least 1,000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten. Reading to preschool-age children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills they need for Kindergarten. In as little as 15 minutes a day, families can build the skills for future school and life success.
Patrons can stop by the front desk of your local library and pick up a booklet to get started today!
Participants who complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for a $250 Visa Gift Card, drawn every August.
Children's Book Week
The New Haven Branch Library is celebtating Children's Book Week May 1st thru May 7th!
Join in the fun by writing a short review of your favorit book on an index card and you will receive a small prize. Index cards are available at the front desk of the New Haven Branch
Online Research for Children
Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration.
